The Florida Department of Health is accepting applications for a Public Health Nutritionist with the WIC & Nutrition Program in Martin County. The position is based at 3441 SE Willoughby Boulevard, Stuart, Florida, and lists annual pay from $50,000 to $51,430.82.

This Career Service vacancy was posted August 4, 2026 and closes August 25, 2026. It is a professional nutrition role that combines direct client counseling, WIC certification, nutrition assessment, breastfeeding education, care planning and public-health program duties.

What You Will Do

The nutritionist works with WIC participants who may be low risk, high risk or medically high risk. The job requires accurate certification information and medical and nutrition assessments, not just general nutrition education.

The employee collects and interprets anthropometric and hematological information, uses client-centered VENA counseling, provides breastfeeding education and develops nutrition care plans when higher-risk needs are identified.

Main Duties

  • Complete WIC certification and participant nutrition assessments.
  • Provide nutrition counseling and breastfeeding education.
  • Develop care plans and nutrition goals for high-risk clients.
  • Enter food-package and nutrition-service codes and load WIC EBT benefits.
  • Refer participants to appropriate health and social services.
  • Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy for referred Healthy Start participants when required.
  • Maintain records, reports and other program documentation.
  • Assist with chart reviews, vendor monitoring, WIC outreach and quality-assurance work.
  • Travel to other worksites when needed.

Required Credentials and Experience

Applicants must meet Florida dietitian licensing requirements and currently hold an RD or LD/N credential. The listing also requires a valid Florida driver license and private transportation.

At least two years of direct client nutrition counseling experience is required. The candidate must also be able to use a computer to enter and retrieve information accurately.

Schedule and Emergency Duties

The position requires schedule flexibility. Some workdays may start at 7:30 AM and others may end at 6:00 PM.

Florida DOH employees can also be assigned emergency duties before, during or after normal work hours, including work connected to a Special Needs Shelter, Emergency Operations Center or another disaster response.

Benefits

The State of Florida lists annual and sick leave, nine paid holidays plus one personal holiday, health and other insurance options, retirement plans with employer contributions, flexible spending accounts and tuition waivers among available employee benefits.

Applicants should review the current state benefits information for exact eligibility and costs.

WIC Systems and Client Documentation

The listing expects the nutritionist to learn and use FL WiSE, the Florida WIC information system, and to document services accurately. The employee enters food-package and nutrition-service codes, records referrals and client contacts, and maintains reports that support both service delivery and program quality.

Accuracy matters because the job handles confidential participant information and program benefits. The posting requires the employee to maintain full client confidentiality on and off the job and to follow state and federal rules governing privacy and security.

Quality Assurance and Outreach

The role is not limited to one-on-one counseling. The nutritionist can assist with chart reviews, vendor monitoring and responses to quality-assurance reports. WIC outreach activities and quarterly education campaigns are also part of the work.

The employee may communicate with physicians and clients by telephone, participate in team and agency meetings and travel to other worksites when needed. These duties make organization and clear communication important alongside clinical nutrition knowledge.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted through the State of Florida People First careers system. The department states that answers to qualifying questions must be supported by the information in the electronic application, so make sure licensing, counseling experience and employment history are documented clearly.

Applications Closed

The closing date for this opportunity was 25 August 2026.
