Hartford Hospital is recruiting a Registered Nurse (RN) – GI Endoscopy for a full-time position in Hartford, Connecticut. The role is based at 79 Retreat Avenue and uses 10-hour day shifts.

This nursing position supports a busy GI Endoscopy unit that treats both inpatient and outpatient populations. The nurse provides pre-operative and post-operative care and works with an interdisciplinary team in a teaching-hospital and Level I trauma-center environment.

Position Details

The RN works under the Nurse Manager and uses evidence-based nursing practice and the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act to plan and deliver patient care. The role requires assessment of physical, emotional, cultural, educational and other patient and family needs.

This is a specialized endoscopy position rather than a general medical-floor assignment. The unit performs advanced diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal procedures.

Procedures and Clinical Work

  • Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD).
  • Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM).
  • ERCP procedures.
  • Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).
  • Motility procedures.
  • Ablation procedures.
  • Small bowel enteroscopy.
  • Pre-operative and post-operative care for inpatient and outpatient patients.

Required Qualifications

Applicants need a current Connecticut RN license and must have graduated from an accredited nursing school. A BSN is required.

BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required before the date of hire. Hartford Hospital prefers one to two years of Stepdown or ICU nursing experience.

What the Unit Needs From the RN

The listing emphasizes organization, energy and the ability to multitask in a busy environment. The nurse must be comfortable coordinating care across several procedures and patient types while maintaining a strong patient-centered approach.

The department is also looking for leadership qualities and someone willing to take on projects or additional tasks as unit needs change.

Work Environment

Hartford Hospital describes itself as a major teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center. The GI Endoscopy role works within a setting that includes advanced treatment, surgical services and specialist teams.

The job is full-time with 10-hour day shifts. Candidates should confirm the exact weekly schedule and any department-specific coverage requirements during the application process.

Working in the GI Endoscopy Unit

The nurse will care for both inpatient and outpatient populations in a busy GI Endoscopy setting. That means the RN must be prepared for patients arriving for planned procedures as well as patients whose endoscopy care is part of a hospital admission.

Pre-operative care can include assessment, preparation and coordination before a procedure, while post-operative care requires monitoring recovery, recognizing changes in condition and providing patient and family education. The hospital is looking for a nurse who can move between these responsibilities while maintaining accurate, patient-centered care.

Why Stepdown or ICU Experience Is Preferred

Hartford Hospital lists one to two years of Stepdown or ICU experience as preferred. The unit performs advanced procedures such as ERCP, EUS, ESD and POEM, and some patients may have complex medical needs. Critical-care or higher-acuity experience can therefore be useful when monitoring patients before and after procedures.

The job also asks for someone who is motivated, organized and able to multitask. Applicants should highlight experience with rapid changes in patient needs, interdisciplinary communication, procedural nursing, sedation recovery or other relevant high-acuity care when applicable.

How to Apply

Use the Hartford HealthCare job posting for the Registered Nurse – GI Endoscopy position and complete the employer’s online application. Make sure your Connecticut RN license, BSN, BLS status and relevant critical-care or perioperative experience are easy to verify.
