Position Overview
TGH Behavioral Health Hospital is recruiting an unpaid Behavioral Health Intern within its Clinical Operations department. Recruitment began August 10, 2026 and the current posting expires on September 10, 2026.
The internship is designed for undergraduate students interested in behavioral health, mental-health treatment and healthcare services. Students gain practical exposure inside an inpatient psychiatric hospital while learning from licensed clinicians and interdisciplinary treatment teams.
The experience connects academic study with real-world clinical operations. Interns can observe assessment, treatment planning, recovery-oriented care, therapeutic programming, discharge planning and the roles of professionals across the behavioral-health team.
Minimum Requirements
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited institution
- Study in Behavioral Health Sciences, Sociology, Psychology, Human Services, Public Health or a related field
- Internship registration for at least 3 academic credits, with strong preference for 6 or more credits
- Application approximately 4–6 weeks before the planned semester start
- Successful background check

- Strong written and verbal communication
- Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Strong organization and attention to detail

Key Responsibilities
- Observe psychoeducational, process and therapeutic groups
- Shadow therapists, social workers, case managers and other behavioral-health professionals
- Attend treatment-team meetings when appropriate
- Observe patient assessments and treatment planning when permitted
- Learn about discharge planning and community resources
- Prepare materials for therapeutic groups and patient activities
- Assist with group setup, attendance tracking and educational materials
- Support patient-engagement and patient-experience initiatives
- Organize clinical resources and program materials
- Assist with program-outcome data and quality-improvement projects
- Follow confidentiality, HIPAA, compliance and professional-boundary requirements
