Application Deadline23 August 2026

The Oregon Department of Revenue is recruiting an Administrative Specialist 2 for the Personal Tax and Compliance Division in Salem. The permanent full-time position pays $4,312 to $5,988 per month and closes August 23, 2026.

The employee will join Return Review Team 2 and work directly with personal income-tax accounts. Although the classification is administrative, the day-to-day job requires tax-return review, taxpayer communication, case analysis and judgment about filing and credit issues.

Reviewing Tax Returns

The specialist reviews and computes amended personal income-tax returns, including accounts converted from the state’s legacy tax system. That can require comparing return data, account history and supporting information before deciding whether an adjustment is needed.

The employee also uses specialized systems to verify or adjust suspended returns for taxpayers with different residency statuses.

Contact With Taxpayers and Representatives

Some cases cannot be completed with the information already on file. The specialist contacts taxpayers, tax practitioners and attorneys by phone or mail to request missing documents or clarification.

Clear communication matters because the employee needs to explain what information is required while keeping the case accurate and professionally documented.

Compliance and Tax-Law Decisions

The role includes analyzing whether a taxpayer is in return-filing compliance under agency policy. The specialist can also evaluate whether a taxpayer or preparer knowingly claimed a credit for which they were not eligible.

Individual cases may require interpretation of federal, state and local tax law. Attention to detail and sound judgment are therefore central to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants can qualify with three years of secretarial or administrative support experience that includes coordinating office procedures, preparing narrative or statistical reports and collecting or analyzing administrative data.

Another route is an associate degree in general office occupations plus two years of the same type of experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience can also qualify.

Hybrid Work and Benefits

The job is headquartered in Salem, but an eligible employee may be allowed to work in an in-state hybrid arrangement. Oregon DOR generally requires candidates to reside in Oregon, subject to the exceptions stated in the current recruitment.

State benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage, retirement programs, holidays, personal business leave, vacation and sick leave, plus optional programs such as disability coverage and deferred compensation.

How to Apply

Apply through the State of Oregon Workday page for requisition REQ-204843. Make sure your application demonstrates the reporting, office-procedure and data-analysis experience required for the classification.
